About this event

Lisa Lintner, Chair of Indiana FREADOM to Read Coalition and
Director of the Johnson County, Indiana Public Library

The Indiana General Assembly and county councils, school districts, and libraries across the state, including those in St. Joseph County, have been grappling with these questions pertaining to books and access to information: What books should Hoosiers be allowed to read in school or check out of the public library? Who decides which texts are “inappropriate” for students? What say, if any, should parents have in removing books from library shelves? What role should the public and politicians play in deciding what books are available, and where they are placed, in our public libraries?

January’s Lunch with the League speaker, Lisa Lintner, represents the Freadom to Read Coalition, a grassroots coalition of passionate Hoosiers dedicated to safeguarding the fundamental right to read. She will explain the group’s mission to ensure that every Hoosier enjoys unrestricted freedom to read and access books of all genres.

About the speaker: In her 20 years of public library experience, Lisa has dedicated her career to providing outstanding library services for patrons from the cradle through retirement. Lisa is active in the Indiana Library Federation. She graduated from Indiana University’s Master of Library Science program and holds a Bachelor of Science in English and Theatre from Ball State University. She is chair of the Indiana Freadom to Read coalition, a grassroots organization of passionate Hoosiers dedicated to ensuring that every Hoosier enjoys the freedom to read and access books of all genres.
