Holiday Dinner December 11

Each year, we select an organization to support with donations during our holiday gathering. This year, we have selected STONE SOUP COMMUNITY, and our dinner speaker will be Executive Director Linda Jung-Zimmerman. Stone Soup Community provides crisis and long-term services in St. Joseph County, and describes its mission this way:

Nominations were accepted for the League's Inaugural Making Democracy Work Award

Nominations are now closed -- here is our earlier call for nominations.

The League is now accepting nominations for its inaugural League of Women Voters Making Democracy Work Award, which will be presented at the League's Fall Friend-Raiser, scheduled for the evening of October 16, 2013.

The award recognizes an individual who has made a significant contribution to our community through the advancement of democracy and civic engagement. The award is open to women and men at least 18 years of age residing in the League's membership area, which includes St. Joseph and Marshall Counties.

Nominees can apply themselves or may be nominated by a friend or colleague. All nominations must be received by September 5, 2013.

Vote Centers - Lunch With the League - August 9

Members of the St. Joseph County Vote Center committee, including County Commissioner Andy Kostielney, Linda Scopelitis, Frank Fotia, and Cindy Bodle, will answer questions about Vote Centers in St Joseph County.

Friday, August 9 - 11:30am-1:00pm South Bend Chocolate Cafe 122 S. Michigan South Bend, IN Speakers begin promptly at noon. Come as early as 11:30 to purchase lunch.

Equal Pay Day - April 9

Equal Pay Day rally April 9 at 12:00 Noon on the steps of the St. Joseph County Courthouse. WEAR RED and join members of LWVSBA, AAUW, YWCA and others who will gather to raise awareness of the wage gap between men and women. Speakers include Mayor Pete Buttigieg and League co-president Lisa Plencner. Why April 9? The day symbolizes how far into 2013 women must work to earn what men earned in 2012.
