2012 Fall Friend-Raiser

A fun and successful evening October 11, 2012! Welcome to our new members and thanks to a generous community that supports our mission and work, including our voter registration program and publication of our Citizen's Guide to Representative Government.

Fall 2012 High School Voter Registration Project

LWVSBA registered 357 voters in area high schools this fall, bringing our 2012 total to 1077 new high school voters! We'll be following up with voter reminders prior to Election Day.

Thanks to the continuing of support of everyone who helps make this program a success - especially to our newest voting citizens. Our Fall 2012 schedule:

Annual Business Meeting 2012 - May 31

Please join May 31 at 5:30pm for the Annual Business Meeting of the LWV South Bend Area at Doc Pierce's Restaurant 120 N. Main Street, Mishawaka.

We will conduct a short business meeting during which the membership will vote on the following:
The new additions to the Board of Directors
The 2012/2013 budget
A re-affirmation of our By-Laws
A re-affirmation of our local positions

Public Forum on Vote Centers - April 17

St. Joseph County Public Library
Colfax Auditorium, 304 S. Main Street, South Bend

Authorized by the Indiana General Assembly in 2011, vote centers would replace existing precinct polling places with an estimated 25 vote centers across St. Joseph County as early as the November election.

This forum will provide information about how other Indiana counties have implemented vote centers, what is proposed for St. Joseph County, and some of the advantages and disadvantages of vote centers for voters and the election process. Participants will have an opportunity to express opinions about the proposed vote centers.

Winter-Spring 2012 - High School Voter Registration Program

League Wraps Up High School Voter Registration Project and Announces First-Time Voter Flash Vote

Since December 15, the League of Women Voters South Bend Area has visited six schools, registering approximately 675 new voters at Adams, Clay, Riley, Washington, Rise Up Academy, and Mishawaka High Schools.

Now, in support of a community initiative on voting, the League will sponsor the 2012 First-Time Voter Flash Vote, encouraging first-time voters to vote on the first Saturday after voting opens at the County-City Building. Our efforts will focus on the almost-700 St. Joseph County students who registered to vote in the League's pilot High School Voter Registration Project. Details:
